A professor whose students liken her style to alchemy, another whose lectures are "rinestones," and still another who wants her students to shout "AHA!" These are among the five recipients of the UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award.

The award, given annually by the Committee on Teaching of the Berkeley Division of the Academic Senate since 1959, recognizes excellence in teaching at the University of California, Berkeley.

The recipients of the Distinguished Teaching Award will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, April 23 at 5 pm in Zellerbach Playhouse. Also honored will be the recipient of this year's Educational Initiatives Award. The ceremony features remarks by Berkeley Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien, Vice Chancellor and Provost Carol Christ, Academic Senate Chair John Quigley and Alumni Association President Richard Russell, along with a slide-tape presentation about the distinguished teachers. The public is invited to the ceremony and the reception that follows in the Toll Room of the Alumni House.
